Arcade Fire & Kanye West Partner for “Objector” EP

In what can best be described as the unlikeliest of collaborations, Riffyou.com has learned that Arcade Fire and kanye-west-big-editKanye West have joined forces to record a 5-track EP. It’s tentatively titled Objector.

According to multiple sources close to the matter, the Grammy Award-winning artists decided to work together after recently sitting down to discuss the merits of post-modernist art at a gallery opening in the Midwestern U.S.

During this conversation, Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler and West agreed to split the vocal duties for the Objector project, but with a slight twist.

West will reportedly do the bulk of the singing (sans auto-tuning), while Butler will perform the hip-hop parts. Sonically, both Arcade Fire and West will stretch far outside of their comfort zones, as the sound they’re going for is expected to “be a grand mixture of prog-rock, celtic-pop, Waylon Jennings-style country, jazz fusion, noise-punk, and early ‘90s techno, with a tinge of dub-step.” David Bowie and 2 Chainz are expected to serve as the project’s producers.

An associate of West says that the artist was inspired to take this project on because “[Kanye’s] fascinated by the prospect of pissing off as many different segments of music fans as possible, in order to fulfill his grandiose need of attention in the form of ire and morbid curiosity.”

He adds: “This is why the name Objector means so much to him. He feels continuously objectified by his fame, arcadefire2013while simultaneously objecting to the fact that he’s not been revered enough. He’s a complicated soul, and this project will be very therapeutic for him. He also looks forward to getting his own Papier-mâché mask.”

As for Arcade Fire’s motivation here, one of the group’s 96 members is quoted as saying that the band “admires Kanye’s artistic tenacity, and has forever had an interest in making an album with vast hip-hop influence.” We’re also told that Butler “has all of the Naughty By Nature, 2 Live Crew, and Redman discs,” and has been begging his bandmates for years to let him “wave his hands in the air, but only if he cares.”

What’s more, we hear that Arcade Fire believes that this is the perfect way to piss away the artistic credibility that they’ve been carefully developing for years, so that the band can “finally buy a remote island and fulfill their dream of being a Jimmy Buffett and Peter Tosh cover band.”

The release date of Objector hasn’t been confirmed, but we’re being told to expect it on April Fool’s Day 2015.
