Blink-182 intro New Song & Album; Tom DeLonge Speaks Out

Blink182-Alkaline

Last night, Blink-182 premiered “Bored to Death,” the band’s first song featuring new member Matt Skiba (of Alkaline Trio) on vocals and guitar. Although Tom DeLonge is now out of the picture, “Bored to Death” sounds like classic Blink-182 – it has an infectious melody; big-time hooks; wicked punch on the drums; and dual vocals that are mind-shatteringly agreeable.

But, of course Blink-182 didn’t just introduce a new song: they also announced that their forthcoming album, California, will be released on July 1. It’ll feature 16 tracks, including one called “Bohemian Rhapsody.” We are desperately hoping that this is a pop-punk cover of the Queen classic. You can view the entire tracklisting below.

What’s more, Blink-182 will celebrate the release of California this summer with a tasty North American tour that’ll also include A Day to Remember, along with All American Rejects and All Time Low performing individually on select dates.

In case you missed it, here’s “Bored to Death”:

Of course, on the same day of Blink-182’s big reveal, Rolling Stone published an interview with DeLonge. In it, he explains the extraterrestrial projects he’s currently in the midst of and the long-running tension he experienced in Blink-182. DeLonge is also convinced that he’s still a member of the band, as he neither quit or was properly dismissed.

Here’s an excerpt from that interview:

“If they would have come to me and said, ‘Hey, you’re really busy right now. We really want to do something, maybe we should get someone to fill in,’ or something, I would have probably been fine with it,” said DeLonge.

“I don’t work on ego,” he continued. “[This circumstance] doesn’t define me. Is it awkward and weird? Yeah. Does part of me get bummed? Totally. But it doesn’t consume me. I’m doing some of the best stuff I’ve ever been involved in. People look in and they go, ‘How could you walk away from something like that?’ or ‘How could you not get so pissed?’ Well, because I’m more than that. I love those guys. The only thing I think about is, I want them to be happy. [But] I don’t want the legacy of the band to get fucked with. I do care about that. I don’t want an incredible legacy to be ruined.” Still, he says, he’s not closing the door on playing with them again. “I’m not opposed to it. I still would be interested, if people would just pick up the phone and call.”

Regardless of DeLonge, we can’t wait for California to emerge!
