Foo Fighters to Play Last Episode of Letterman

At first we thought Eddie Vedder would be the last musical guest to ever play on The Late Show Foo-Fighters-Final-Lettermanwith David Letterman, then we thought it would be Bob Dylan, who appeared on last night’s episode alongside Bill Murray. Now comes word, via Rolling Stone, that Foo Fighters will serve as the final musical act to perform on the program. In case you’ve been living under a rock, Letterman will head into the sunset after tonight’s episode.

Foo Fighters first performed on Letterman’s stage in 1995, in support of the band’s debut album. “This is a Call” was the track Dave Grohl and the guys went with.

Most recently, Foo Fighters played a week-long stretch on The Late Show in support of Sonic Highways. During the Foo residency, the band performed with a range of special guests including Zac Brown and members of Heart.

On one of the night’s Foo Fighters performed “Miracle,” a song that has a deep, personal meaning to Letterman.

“These gentlemen, we’ve known each other for a long, long time now,” said Letterman ahead of ‘Miracle’ being played. “They have crossed my paths in ways unexpected and expected. And, as a result, each and every year they grow to mean more to me as human beings and talented musical artists. It’s the second song of theirs that will always have great great meaning to me for the rest of my life.”
