Josh Homme Feels Like “Kevin Bacon in Footloose” When Performing with Iggy Pop

While Josh Homme recently made headlines for appropriately berating a supposed autograph vulture, what he’d probably rather us focus on is the time he’s getting to spend with Iggy Pop (who turned 69 today!) on the Post Pop Depression tour.

During a recent interview with CBC Radio 2’s The Strombo Show, Homme spoke about what it feels like for him to be sharing a stage with the rock icon, Pop.

“This is a once in a lifetime moment for us. It won’t last. It can’t last. We wish it would last. It won’t last,” said Homme. “It’s not supposed to and we understand that too. There’s some people that won’t like this and I’m not really speaking to them and I get it, but to the people that love Iggy and respect Iggy, I’m really thankful for a moment to be a part of something that I really love, that I’ve always looked up to and that is worthy of it too, the closer that you get to it.”

He continued: “I often feel like Kevin Bacon in Footloose, like I’m just dancing around and it is supposed to be illegal. I close my eyes and dance around, with a smile on my face and when I open them, we’re on stage with Iggy and I don’t want anything else than that. I don’t think about anything else but that right now, you know? … It’s an absolute blessing to. I just try not to think about it, just enjoy it and cut loose, Footloose.”

Later on in the interview, Homme went on to explain how rare of a creature Pop remains, especially at this stage of his career.

“It doesn’t surprise me that he would be the last man standing,” relayed Homme. “If you were in Vegas, there’s other people that would be betting in a different manner, but I think [about] his ability to sort of walk between the raindrops. He’s this amalgam, this confluence of situation – some God given and some learned. He’s just a different guy, you know? Some people say: ‘Oh my friend, Jerry. He’s a one in a million.’ Probably not. Honestly. I think Iggy actually is because to recognize the difference between Iggy and Jerry is a no brainer, which is great for only having just a little bit of a brainer in my head.”

Happy Birthday Iggy!!
