Last year, Melvins member and friend to the late Kurt Cobain, Buzz Osborne, vehemently spoke out against the Brett Morgen documentary, Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck. Essentially, he viewed the film as mostly bullshit and even questioned Courtney Love’s involvement in it during an interview with Riffyou.com.

Now almost a year later, Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic – who appears in said film as well as on the new Melvins album Basses Loaded – has offered an opinion on Osborne’s 2015 critique of Montage of Heck.

“That’s just Buzz,” said Novoselic during an interview with Rolling Stone. “He’s always been like that, but we love him so we just accept him for that. He’s always had these opinions. Like, ‘Oh, there goes Buzz again.’ You never know what he’s gonna say, but he means well, and he’s a great musician. He’s been a dear friend for a long time. That’s the way it is.”

When Riffyou.com spoke to Osborne about Montage of Heck, we asked him if his harsh opinions of the film had anything to do with standing up for a friend (Cobain) that wasn’t around to defend himself.

“Yes. That’s it, 100%,” confirmed Osborne. “I don’t understand how anyone could see it another way. If they want to argue and say that I’m wrong, then okay, I’ll play their game. Would they feel better if Kurt Cobain did ‘fuck a fat retard.’ Do they feel better now? Do they feel better if he actually was suicidal? That makes you feel better? None of that’s true. I don’t think that’s a good legacy for him to have out there…I know it’s not true. It’s that simple.”
