Despite just releasing Drones earlier this year, Muse is already considering what its next album will be. During an interview with South China Morning Post, the band’s drummer Dominic Howard offered some insight.

“We’ve talked about it, yeah,” said Howard when asked the follow-up to Drones. “But we haven’t really talked about when or where. But I just know we need to do something really, really different to anything we’ve done before.”

He continued: “I think it’s time to kind of lose our minds a little bit more in the studio and delve into some new areas of music that we’re kind of not that used to or comfortable with. I think we should definitely do that and kinda go for it. Yeah, we’ve got small ideas about how we think we can evolve. That’s the key thing: evolving.”

In May, Muse’s Matthew Bellamy said that Drones is the trio’s best album to date.

“I can say this: [Drones] is our best album,” said Bellamy in an interview with iHeartRadio. “I haven’t been able to say that for a while, but this album is our best album – so feel free to start on this one, just don’t worry about the others.”
