Sloan Kickoff “Commonwealth” with Fall Tour

Share

The ever-triumphant Sloan returns next week with Commonwealth, their first new album since 2011’s 20th anniversary sloan-commonwealthoffering, The Double Cross. To properly get the ball rolling, the band has announced a series of North American dates that kickoff on October 7 in Sudbury, ON, before concluding on October 23 in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, on September 9 (Commonwealth’s official release date), Sloan will take part in a special performance at the hmv Underground at Yonge & Dundas in Toronto.

As previously explained, Commonwealth is broken up into four parts, with the band members – Chris Murphy, Patrick Pentland, Jay Ferguson, and Andrew Scott – each creatively leading a segment of it. Like a deck of cards, each ‘side’ is designated a suit (Diamond, Heart, Shamrock, Spade).

Ferguson’s Diamond side is said to showcase his “remarkable knack for symphonic pop,” while Pentland’s Shamrock zones in more on “pedal-hoppin’ psych rock.” Murphy’s Heart, meanwhile, “burst[s] with wit, jangle, and electric energy,” as Scott’s Spade is described as “an ingenious 18-minute pop suite.”
