Stone Temple Pilots Guitarist: “Our trouble was Scott”

If you have been one of those people holding out hope that Scott Weiland would once again reunite stp-chesterwith his now ex-Stone Temple Pilots bandmates, think again.

During a new interview with Yahoo! Music, Stone Temple Pilots guitarist Dean DeLeo was asked if the band – which is currently fronted by Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington – would ever welcome back Weiland.

Responded DeLeo: “Why the fuck would we want that? That fucking mess? I just told you earlier we’re on a rebirth now. We’re with a guy that pushes us. We’re with a guy that is 1000% present. I’ve waited almost my entire career for this.”

When asked to compare Weiland and Bennington, DeLeo added: “There’s no comparison. It’s like talking about the strength of a 2-year-old baby compared to a professional body builder. I’ll tell you this man, Robert, Eric and I are really fortunate. We’re having the time of our lives right now. We really feel like this has been a rebirth.”

“[Robert, Eric and I] never had trouble,” he continued. “Our trouble was Scott. Scott’s troubles were our troubles.”

In the interview DeLeo went on to explain that the band is deep into the album making process with Bennington, noting that six songs are close to being ready to go.

“He pretty much saved the band,” DeLeo said of Bennington. “It couldn’t have gone on. It was either going to stop or…We all just hoped Chester would say yes when we asked him to be the singer of this band. He really did save it.”
