UnCut Audio: 40 Minutes with Chuck Ragan

Share

When you’re sitting in a room with Chuck Ragan, one thing becomes clear rather quickly: you begin to think that he really is the nicest man on the planet. Of course, there’s no way to truly prove or disprove that (unless you’re miraculously able to meet every person in the world), but that’s how you feel when in his presence.

On a surprisingly mild December afternoon in Toronto, Riffyou.com was invited down to the Horseshoe Tavern to catch up with Ragan as he wound down a rather fruitful year.

In 2014, Ragan released his critically-acclaimed solo album Till Midnight (through SideOneDummy Records and Dine Alone Records) and spent time on the road with both his new band, The Camaraderie, as well as the one who first brought him to many of us, Hot Water Music.

Within moments of sharing a firm handshake with Ragan, he and Riffyou.com brought a couple of beers to one of the Horseshoe’s backstage band rooms. Over the course of the next 40 minutes, we discussed the year that was; the tough childhood that made Ragan the man he is today; helping listeners get through tough times; keeping ego out of the picture; and the importance of artistic evolution.

This conversation was all encompassing and deserved to be published in its entirety for Riffyou.com’s first ever UnCut Audio interview.
