Near the end of 2014, disturbing footage and stories of Creed frontman Scott Stapp emerged. He scott-stapp-2014claimed that the IRS and people in the music industry were withholding lots of money from him and that he was a CIA agent who had instructions to assasinate US President Barrack Obama.

During this time, Stapp’s wife, Jaclyn, publicly disclosed that she felt her husband was dealing with severe mental issues and attempting to medicate them by abusing crystal meth, steroids and amphetamines.

“I had a psychotic break that was brought on by alcohol and drug abuse,” admitted Stapp in a new interview with People Magazine. “I was hallucinating. I drove around the United States for a month, following an angel that I saw on the hood of my car. In my delusional thinking, I thought my family was involved in ISIS and that millions of dollars had been taken from me to support terrorism. All of it was nonsense. I was out of my mind.”

While receiving treatment for his issues, Stapp was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a disease that causes shifts in mood, energy, and ability to function.

“I definitely knew there was something going on for years, but I couldn’t pinpoint what it was,” offered Stapp. “It was hard to process. There’s a stigma associated with it. But Jaclyn kept telling me, ‘Embrace it. We love you.’ It became a big sign of relief, because finally, we had an answer.”

Stapp is currently sober and involved in “intensive therapy.” He is on medication for his bipolar disorder and involved in a 12-step program.
