Pouzza Fest Hangover: Bands Chat Desired Acts & Movie Depictions

Share

Pouzza Fest weekend (May 16-18, 2014) is always a great weekend to meet a plethora of rad punk/hardcore bands. During two days of pouzza-minidrinking and eating poutine, I got to sit down and interview some interesting bands with much and/or little to say. Some were underground bands, while others were reputable bands with notches on their belts.

Regardless of their statuses, I received some good answers to some weird questions, further proving that these are the types of dudes that you’re able to drink beer in parking lots with and talk No Idea Records 7”s.

Here are the results:

RY: What bands/entertainment outside of punk rock would you love to see at future Pouzza fests?

“Possessed by Paul James. He’s a banjo playing punk. Or, William Elliot Whitemore. He’s does more folk that mingles into punk. Guilty pleasures would include poppy Seattle stuff…Sub Pop bands like Head and the Heart.”
-Jody of Farler’s Fury

“Some wrestling, like new WWE…The Shield, but also all-time classics like Mick Foley. Someone told me once in Long Island, NY, that I’m the Mick Foley of hardcore. That made my day.”
-Patty of Brutal Youth

“Outside of punk? Mock Orange – they’re not punk at all. Tyler the Creator and Odd Future Crew would make absolute sense.”
-Keith of the Holy Mess

“We are suckers for ‘90s alt-rock like Harvey danger. If they reformed, We’d be stoked. The Pixies would be cool too, or the Metallica line up from the ‘80s when Cliff Burton was around. Basically, the Ride the Lighting era. We don’t want Heavy MTL ‘request the set shit.’
-School damage

“Old Crow Medicine Show. I’d love to see them – that would be perfect. And screw it…let’s get some Against me! or Fucked Up.”
-Cactus Vella

“Bob Marley, or new generation hip-hop like Aesop Rock. We’re huge hip-hop fans. We’d also want to see classics like A Tribe Called Quest or The Fugees.”
-Trophy Lungs

“Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, and DEVO. I’m going to see [DEVO] in Vancouver. my friend bought me a ticket. They called the tour Hardcore, so it’s DEVO tracks from 1977- 79. I’ll shit my pants anywhere to see them live. I’ll wear my power dome forever.”
-Chi Pig if SNFU

RY: If your band would be turned into a movie, what would it be compared to? Who would you get to play you and why?

“It would be an Old French film…something that is kind of a bummer, but beautiful. Something very existential and with a super cute French girl in it. Who would play us? Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna. We’re both Latino, so that makes sense. It’d be like the motorcycle diaries, and since we have a white guy in the band, he will be the motorcycle,” laughs.
-Sad & French

“Not sure what movie it would be at all. “I’d get Crispin Clover to play me…he’s so weird.”
-Chi Pig of SNFU

“Hmm, we’re big movie guy with lots of favourites. But we’d be a Seinfeld episode with punk rockers with problems…a dark comedy for sure.”
-Morning Glory

“We’d say Workaholics. We’re like dudes in those settings who don’t belong there, but the jobs allow us to do this and tour for two months.”
-OC45

Schindler’s List, obviously. Steve Buscemi, Keanu Reeves and Steve Aoki would star in it, all due to striking , uncanny resemblances.”
-School Damage

“I’d say The Dark Crystal with David Bowie – hands down!”
-Keith of the Holy Mess

Lethal Weapon 1, 2 and 3, for sure. Meg Ryan would be in it. she doesn’t do enough anymore. We love her.”
-Guilhem and Vince of Lost Love

-Interviews by Gabriel Frank Koury
