Cyber Tracks, the California-based boutique label owned and operated by NOFX’s El Hefe and his wife Jennifer Abeyta, counterpunch-cyber-tracks-smallhave signed pop-punk outfit Counterpunch. To be released on August 5, the band’s new album Bruises will follow in the footsteps of their 2011 offering, Dying to Exonerate.

Bruises, which is described as an effort that “masterfully blends the sound of 90’s melodic skate-punk with modern Rise Against style angst,” is said to showcase the band’s fondness for three-part harmonies and “anthemic choruses.”

The album was recorded at Atlas Studios in Chicago by producer Matt Allison, who has previously worked with Alkaline Trio, Less Than Jake, and The Lawrence Arms.

In February, Riffyou.com had the opportunity to speak with El Hefe and Jennifer about Cyber Tracks.

“We’re doing things the way things should be. We should be business partners with the band, and split the profits,” said El Hefe when discussing how Cyber Tracks operates. “I’ve been on both ends of the business. Even before I joined NOFX, I was doing major deals with major labels. Then I got into NOFX and thought, ‘this is so cool, this is the independent way. We’re able to make a living and call all the shots.’ I’ve liked that so much more than dealing with a major label.”

“We want to be unique and set a really good example that not all labels are bad,” added Jennifer. “There are still good people out there that really want to focus on good music and put out good music…and not just try to make millions of dollars.”
