Death Grips Breakup and Trent Reznor is Pissed About it

Noise-rap outfit Death Grips have pulled the plug on their career in what appears to be one final publicity stunt. Made up Death-Gripsof Stefan Burnett, Zach Hill, and producer Flatlander, the trio’s career has consisted of critical praise, followed by self-inflicted sabotage efforts that included getting themselves fired from Epic Records and setting their gear up at shows, only to not actually show up.

Last month, it appeared that momentum was on the side of Death Grips.

They released Niggas on the Moon, the first-half of a planned double-album. Somewhat surprisingly, Björk was featured on every track. People were digging it.

But here we are today, one days after the band issued a Facebook page farewell in the form of a photographed handwritten note. It reads:

We are now at our best and so Death Grips is over.
We have officially stopped.
All currently scheduled live dates are canceled.
Our upcoming double album
The Powers That B will still be delivered worldwide later this year via Harvest/Thirdworld Records.
Death Grips was and always has been a conceptual art exhibition anchored by sound and vision. Above and beyond a “band.”
To our truest fans please stay legend.”

The band was scheduled to be the supporting act for this summer’s Nine Inch Nails (NIN) and Soundgarden co-headlining tour. With the tour supposed to start on July 19 and a new opener now required, needless to say NIN frontman Trent Reznor is pretty pissed off.

On Twitter, he said: “sorry everyone… why would I have ever thought those dudes could keep it together?”
