Metric Unleash The Pagan Portal App

Before Metric puts out Pagans in Vegas on September 18, the band has unveiled a free, mobile Metric-2015-Pressphone app to accompany the album. Available on iOS and Android platforms, the app allows fans “to unlock” special streaming access to songs ahead of the album being released.

Dubbed The Pagan Portal, this free app also features unlocked streams of already released singles “The Shade,” “Cascades,” and the newest Metric song to surface, “Too Bad, So Sad.”

In addition to the music, The Pagan Portal will also offer fans special announcement notifications, as well as access to pre-sale tickets, contests and discounts.

“This is actually the second app we have designed,” commented Metric’s Emily Haines. “Our first was our Synthetica app, which we made with the creator of Bjork’s Biophilia app. It allowed people to experiment with different visual and sonic effects, it was really unusual and I loved it. We got over 100,000 downloads in the first two weeks but it had no enduring function once you’d played around with all the features, which made it feel disposable.”

Continued Haines: “So this time we wanted to make something that would serve as a dedicated platform with a life of its own, a way to reward our biggest fans with first access to everything new we create in the future. Right now it’s all about unveiling “Pagans in Vegas” and giving our listeners a chance to hear that music before anyone else, but our intention is for it to evolve well beyond that. I imagine the Pagan Portal being the place where we preview all of our new music first.”
