Morrissey Tells Obama to Stuff Himself this Thanksgiving

morrissey-smallOften outspoken musician Morrissey, who also happens to be a hardcore animal activist, has taken U.S. President Barack Obama to task over the American tradition of “pardoning” or essentially sparing a turkey’s life shortly before Thanksgiving.

On the official Morrissey fan site, True to You, a quick note entitled “Thankskilling” was published on Tuesday, with Morrissey credited as its author. It reads:

“Please ignore the abysmal example set by President Obama who, in the name of Thanksgiving, supports torture as 45 million birds are horrifically abused; dragged through electrified stun baths, and then have their throats slit. And President Obama laughs. Haha, so funny!

“As Ingrid Newkirk from PETA points out, turkey ‘meat’ is one of “our nation’s top killers”, causing heart-attacks and strokes in humans due to saturated animal fats and cholesterol. And President Obama laughs.

“Further, the meat industry is responsible for 51% of human-caused greenhouse-gas emission, therefore the embarrassingly stupid White House ‘turkey pardon’ is open support for a viciously cruel and environmentally irresponsible industry. And President Obama laughs.”

In 1963, John F. Kennedy became the first U.S. President to spare the life of a Thanksgiving turkey. However, it is believed that Ronald Regan, in 1987, was the first U.S. President to officially “pardon” a bird during the holiday.”

Turkeys may not be human, but Morrissey obviously believes that they still need to be loved…just like everybody else does.
