This Dude Made Records Out of Food; Played Them on Turntables

If you were to ask certain music fans, they would tell you that the only things they need in life to survive is food and records. Well, these people should be thrilled to learn about what went down at Guy’s Chapel on Wednesday night in London, England.

According to a report from The Vinyl Factory, British producer Matthew Herbert introduced his ‘Edible Songs’ project, which was commissioned by Science Gallery London.

For the edible-artsy event, Herbert laser-etched aubergine, onion, celeriac, potato, ham, cheese, tortillas and sugar into playable records that were subsequently devoured by those in attendance.

Said Herbert ahead of spinning food: “For this project I am interested in the idea of listening to the textures and matter of the foodstuff itself, from sugar and chocolate to vegetables and fruit. Is there such a thing as unhealthy listening? And when we’ve heard what it actually sounds like will we still be willing to eat it?”
