Unheard Kurt Cobain 12-Minute Acoustic Track Coming Soon

Brett Morgen, the director of the fully-authorized Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck documentary, has confirmed via Twitter that a never before heard 12-minute acoustic song by Cobain will be available for the first time on the film’s soundtrack. A date for the soundtrack’s release hasn’t been provided.

While the details are scarce, Morgen did tweet this fact out there on March 7, which has likely sent a jolt of excitement through the Nirvana fans from across the land.

Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck has made its way through various film festivals, but will premiere for TV audiences on May 4 through HBO.

In a previous interview with Rolling Stone, Morgen explained that there were numerous elements of the film that were challenging for the Cobain family to handle.

“It was very difficult and painful for me to show [Wendy, Cobain’s mother] some of the stuff in the third act of the film,” expressed Morgen to Rolling Stone. “I know that she would prefer that not be in the movie, and I don’t blame her. Even seeing him having intimate relations with Courtney – I don’t think Kurt would have wanted Wendy to see that.

“But we weren’t trying to bring him down,” he continued. “We were trying to look him in the eye. I didn’t want to humiliate him. I don’t think there has ever been, or will ever be, another movie about an icon that’s this raw or intimate. Someone involved with the estate’s management saw the film and said to me, ‘You can’t put this out in the world. This is not what people want to see’ I was like, no, man. It’s Kurt Cobain. It needs to be honest.”
