Want a Meat Sandwich? Then Help Fund GWARbar!

Following the passing of band leader Dave Brockie earlier this year, GWAR’s surviving members have set out to “make one of his last dreams gwar-band-smalla reality.” That, explains the band, is to create GWARbar, a place that’ll provide attendees with a “dining environment that will make each meal an adventure.”

To help get this project off the ground, GWAR is seeking financial support from fans through crowd-funding site, Indiegogo. The ultimate goal is $50,000, with donations being accepted until the end of June 21.

GWAR has already purchased a space for the restaurant within Richmond, VA’s Jackson Ward, but needs the aforementioned funds to help “transform it into a fantasy land of food and beverage.” What that’ll partly entail is building a smokehouse; an expansive upper level outdoor deck; a premier “beer GWARden”; and to afford a giant meat grinder to “make creative new takes on hot dogs and freshly ground hamburgers.”

Meanwhile, Travis Croxton, Richmond’s 2013 ‘Restauranteur of the Year’ and GWAR guitarist Michael Derks (aka BalSac the Jaws ‘O Death) will use their culinary experience to develop the menu and cocktail program.

“The only limit on the awesomosity of this venue is our budget,” reads the official statement upon the campaign’s Indiegogo page. “That’s where you come in. The more money we raise, the cooler this restaurant will be! And you’ll be a part of it. Every time you come in after work, or visit Richmond from whatever remote corner of the world you live in, you will have a place you can call your own, surrounded by the creative weirdos you love. You will know that you are a part of GWARbar just as GWAR will always be a part of you.”

For a donation of $1, an individual will be provided with the band’s “undying scorn,” while a $10,000 bid of generosity will grant a person a private party at GWARbar once it’s open for business.
