On November 12, the legendary and continually prolific Neil Young will turn 70 years old. To celebrate that, CBC Radio 2’s The Strombo Show invited a collection of musicians to pay tribute to the music of Young.

One of those performers was City and Colour (aka Dallas Green), who chose to play a stripped-down, condensed version of “Cowgirl in the Sand” from Young’s 1969 album, Everybody Knows This is Nowhere.

Recalled Green: “August 18, 1993 at the Exhibition. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Blues Traveler. Watching [Neil Young] play there was my first introduction and seeing, when you are younger you want to know what bands are your favourite bands’ favourite bands. To see that Pearl Jam/Neil Young camaraderie, I guess, is what got me really into it … I was 12, so that was a life-altering moment for me.”
