Watch Iggy Pop Cover David Bowie’s “The Jean Genie”

Last night in New York City as part of the Tibet House’s annual benefit concert, Iggy Pop joined forces with members of Patti Smith’s band for a memorable rendition of David Bowie’s “The Jean Genie.” It’s been well-documented for decades the impact Bowie had on Pop in terms of music and friendship. You can watch the performance below.

Currently, Pop is gearing up for a tour with Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme and Arctic Monkeys member Matt Helders in support of his latest solo album, Post Pop Depression. As it turns out, this may in fact be Pop’s final album.

“I feel like I’m closing up after this. That’s what I feel. It’s my gut instinct,” offered Pop in an interview with Beats1. When asked if he meant he’ll never make music again, Pop elaborated: “No. If you call me and you want to work out a deal to come and sing ‘Happy Birthday’ at your mother’s, something like that I’ll refer you to someone. But to really make a real album you really have to put everything into it and the energy’s more limited now.”
