Watch “No Shows,” the New Video from Gerard Way

Gerard Way – the frontman of the now-defunct My Chemical Romance –is currently embarking on a solo career, as his Gerard-Way-1debut album Hesitant Alien hits shelves and hard drives on September 30.

Ahead of his first solo performance at Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth UK on Wednesday night, Way has released a throwback video for his track, “No Shows.”

Reminiscent of a cheesy, 1970’s-era variety program performance, the video sees Way draped in a form-fitting purpley-blue sit, with fiery hair unkempt hair doing its thing. While he’s previously noted that Pulp, Blur, David Bowie, Morrissey, and The Pixies influenced this album, we can’t help but hear an early-days Strokes sound amidst this tune. (You can judge for yourself below).

“My intention was to make 100 percent uncompromised art, using the currently least radio-friendly instrument, the guitar,” says Way in a quote published by NME. “I knew there would be lots of fuzz pedals. I knew I would play Fender instruments. I knew I would look at who my guitar heroes were in art school, Mary Timony and Carrie Brownstein, and I drew a lot of influence from shoegaze and Britpop. I want the record to sonically galvanize people.”
