The Polaris Music Prize will be awarded on Monday, September 22 at The Carlu in downtown Toronto, but the gala steve-jordan-polaris-smallleading into it will not be a hush-hush affair.

Nominees Basia Bulat, Jessy Lanza, Mac DeMarco, Owen Pallett, Shad, and Tanya Tagaq will all perform, while members of Arcade Fire and YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN will be in attendance.

Actor Jay Baruchel will play host, as listeners tune in via the live webcast run by Aux.tv, or the radio broadcast by SiriusXM’s Iceberg (Sirius 161) and The Verge (XM 173). For those looking to attend, a limited amount of $50 general admission tickets are available through Ticketfly.

An 11-person jury will determine this year’s $30,000 grand prize winner, while  $2,000 will be presented to all other band’s nominated on this year’s Short List.

Past winners include  Godspeed You! Black Emperor (2013), Feist (2012), Arcade Fire (2011), Karkwa (2010), Fucked Up (2009), Caribou (2008), Patrick Watson (2007), and Final Fantasy (Owen Pallett) (2006).

“[The Short List] says what we’ve been trying to say since the very start: that the diversity and the quality [of Canadian music] is just unparalleled, I think, around the world,” said Steve Jordan (photographed above), the Founder and Executive Director of the Polaris Music Prize in a recent interview with Riffyou.com. “We’re certainly comparable to Britain, the US, and other cultural machines. We definitely compete.”
