GWAR Accused of Stealing Ashes of Deceased Frontman

William Brockie, the father of deceased GWAR frontman Dave Brockie (Oderus Urungus) and oderus-gwaradministrator of his will, is suing the remaining members of the band, its Slave Pit Inc. management company, as well as an affiliate organization for $1 million dollars, plus damages.

The suit, which was filed on April 2 in Richmond, Virginia, claims that GWAR has stolen the cremated remains of Brockie, along with his bass guitars, a gold record and artwork. It’s also alleged that GWAR has illegally used Brockie’s image for profit after his passing.

Reads the lawsuit: “Immediately after Dave Brockie’s death, the remaining active members of GWAR…set out on a course of action to capitalize on the death of Dave Brockie.”

GWAR is also accused of not paying the late frontman’s estate for the final shows he did with the band in February and March 2014.

In all, reports NBC News, the lawsuit suggests that GWAR has been “trying to take control of Brockie’s estate from his father.” It’s alleged that this began the day after Brockie’s March 23, 2014 passing, when GWAR’s manager signed bogus releases that allowed the band to use Brockie’s name and likeness for merchandising purposes.

Okay, now back to the ashes.

The lawsuit further alleges that Brockie’s remains have been locked up within the Slave Pit headquarters. Brockie’s father says that when he went to claim them in May, he was denied entry into the facility. Shortly thereafter, a staff member apparently handed him “a small fraction of his son’s ashes which were delivered in a used plastic bag with Discover credit card logo on it.”

GWAR has yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
