Bands are typically asked to speak about and dissect their albums ad nauseam. With that in mind, we’d like to give them the opportunity to, well, not do that.

In this edition of Riffyou.com‘s My Favourite Album Ever feature, we asked Liam Cormier of beastly heavy rockers, Cancer Bats, to tell us about which album he holds above the rest.

“My favourite record of all time is Check Your Head by the Beastie Boys. When I was a kid in the ’90s, I was getting into so many different styles of music, from hip-hop to punk to classic rock and metal – just listening to everything I could get my hands on.

“When you’re a kid, it’s tough being all over the place with music. So much of what you listened to defined who you were. Are you a rocker? A rapper? A skater? Then along came the Beastie Boys who were all of these things rolled up into one, and they skated!

“Here was this album of fuzzed out drums and guitar, with guys rapping over top with vocals that sounds like all my punk heroes. This was such a relief for me as a young kid trying to figure myself out and here were these three dudes saying, ‘Yo Liam, don’t worry about it, we love all music!’

“Thanks Beastie Boys for setting me on the right path and showing me that you can like any style of music as long as it’s dope!”
