Watch “Shark Week” Show Us How Death Metal Attracts Sharks

With “Shark Week,” The Discovery Channel teaches us a lot, including: some people are too stupid to avoid shark attacks; Cuba allowed American scientists into its country to tag sharks; and most importantly, death metal music is capable of attracting great white sharks.

During last night’s Bride of Jaws documentary, a crew abandons typical shark wrangling techniques and goes an unconventional route by placing a speaker in the water and letting music from The Darkest Hour ring out.

“Typically, with acoustic attraction, it appeals to two key senses in the shark,” it was explained during the episode. “Both, the internal ears which they have, and also the ability to pick up low-frequency vibrations . . . this could just be our secret weapon.”
