Lieutenant Go Black Metal in “Believe the Squalor” Video

Lieutenant, the cool side project from Foo Fighters bassist Nate Mendel, has released a black metal-themed video for its new single “Believe the Squalor.”

In the video, Lieutenant appear as a menacing black metal band within a church comprised of a scantily-clad, writhing woman and religious staff members who seem to be scared shitless. Oh and then there’s the massive fire.

What makes this clip all the more hilarious, yet intriguing, is the heavy duty imagery that’s cast beside a relatively mellow song.

“I feel that if there’s going to be a negative aspect to it, it’s that the music will be taken less seriously because I’ve got this relative behemoth of a band that I am a part of, and that I am just doing this on the side and it isn’t life or death for me,” said Mendel in an interview with Riffyou.com when asked if he feels that Lieutenant will be judged differently because of his connection to Foo Fighters. “It’s not that the music is taken less seriously, but it’s looked at with less of a critical eye because it seems like I am a dilatant.”
