Alice Cooper has written some classic songs throughout his decades of rock n’ roll badassery, including “I’m Eighteen,” “School’s Out” and “Welcome to My Nightmare.” However, that doesn’t mean the shock rock originator hasn’t sat back in awe at the work of others.

During an appearance this past Sunday on CBC Radio 2’s The Strombo Show, Cooper was asked what he considered to be the best song he didn’t write. Right away, Nirvana‘s quintessential track came to mind.

“Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit,'” admitted Cooper. “I’m so mad I didn’t write that. It’s one of those songs that I really covet. I can’t believe I didn’t write that.”

Cooper didn’t stop there, however.

“‘Been Caught Stealing’ by Jane’s Addiction, what an amazing record that is,” he continued. “There’s another one – ‘Teenagers’ by My Chemical Romance. There is ‘Red Flag’ by Billy Talent, great record and one called ‘Blue Collar Jane by The Strypes.’ Unbelievable band.”
